Reading and Language Arts are taught to the students in small groups, according to ability levels. Each group has its own reading text and assignments. The stories each group is reading are listed below. To help your child's reading ability grow, encourage them to read every day (even if it's not assigned as reading homework). Some strategies that help children read better include choral reading (that is reading out loud together in unison), echo reading (you read a sentence or paragraph out loud and they repeat after you), and partner reading (take turns reading paragraphs or sentences). Also, let your children see you read for enjoyment. Children who see that their parents value reading are more likely to want to read themselves.
Reading Websites
The Harcourt Trophies website has some good games. Even though we're not using the series anymore you can still access it. The web address for "The Education Place" is http://www.harcourtschool.com/menus/signin/author.html?seriesid=11. The password is any of the authors of the text. I use "Beck" because it's short and easy to remember. The Grammar Practice Park has fun language games.
